la bombaaa! i became good friends with juan from the boogie and he invited to take me to this local colombian dance show. we need more of this latin moving in the states! pictures and videos describe it best so i’ll let those do the talking.
tuesday morning i adventured off to uruguay. it was an hour ferry ride from buenos aires where i sat and wrote in my journal for the blog. i was expecting a big port city was thrilled to find that it was a small colonial town- streets lined with trees, ocean docks, small cafes. i dozed off on the dock and then rented a bike to explore the island. i also found a natural health store with a doctor who talked with me about natural health in spanish. before I caught the last ferry home, i stopped in my favorite café to date- pictures describe it best. when i return I want more time there. although i only had a day there, the peace and quiet reminded me how much i love nature and its peace and quiet. I knew in colombia I would love more days like this.
the ferry ride back home i sat there for an hour just thinking. i was feeling uneasy about going back to the states the next day, making it to arizona for the wedding and the rush getting ready for colombia. just as those thoughts were manifesting too big, I step of the ferry and there is juan aka mr. roberto holding a sign that says “mrs. roberto!” i fell into his hug with relief he was there to pick me up and the comfort of a new friend caring about me.
he realized that night that i had not seen some of his favorite parts of the city. we walked around an area with massive skyscrapers, famous statues and beautiful water walkways. he then took me to his neighborhood where we had a bottle of wine and salmon dinner. mr. roberto seemed to know everyone who passed and sitting there it made me realize how much i had fallen in love with argentina.
the conversation that night was incredibly special- my favorite part of traveling is finding those people that you immediately click with and can life talk for hours. he opened up about how important it is to always tell people you love them- because he learned the hard way it can become too late. also we talked about how some things, a lot of things just really don’t matter, yet it is those things that trip us up the most. we also laughed at my crazy trip to la, home to sd, to az, back to sd and leaving for colombia in the next 3 days. his reassurance in myself, my trip, my choices, are words that i will hold on to for a lifetime.
